Moduretik is a 24 year old musician from Prague. He started producing in 2001 with stints in experimental/IDM duo Moon Projekt and screamo/hc band Kill! Kill! Kids! Subsequently he went on a solo path, releasing several albums that saw him experiment with IDM/ambient and buoyant 8 BIT sounds and samples from Czechoslovak comedies.

His latest record (out today, 13 March 2011) sees him delve into analogue noodling courtesy of his analogue synthetizer. Rather than the happy-go-lucky 8/bit sounds, his new record follows in a more minimalist synth path reflecting the last couple of years of musical development and the increased interest in old analogue synthetizers and sounds as championed by half of Brooklyn and also, notably, the Minimal Wave imprint.

OVER9000 is a new label in Serbia, founded by MangulicaFM, a musician and a final year student of audio and video technologies and his sister Sofija, a final year theatre, radio and culture production student. The label wants to foster Serbian music and art scene.

“Since, scene in Serbia is pretty poor, most of the bands/performers don’t have enough authenticity, and lack personality. Another problem is lack of loyal audience and support between the bands/performers themselves. That’s why we involved some people and created this informal and amateur organization/label that can’t fail because it will operate without any firmly set goal, no money, no pressure, just good will to share some quality and authentic music/art. Only goal that OVER9000 sets is making international connections, performing via cheap travels and spamming the broadband internet world,” say the label owners.

The first two artists on the label are mangulicaFM and bicikl. Mangulica’s EP Disznotor is out now.

The second LP of Niwea - a project of two enigmatic figures of Polish music & art scenes, Wojciech Bakowski (recently won “The best multimedia artist of 2010” by the influential Politika magazine) and Dawid Szczesny, is to be released on Qulturap on 18th of April. We look forward for hearing their harsh but poetic take on something they themselves call coldwave hip-hop.

The eye of Sauron Easterndaze is still pointed to the lands of Romania. This time its the new track by the mashup artist / track rapist b0g that caught our attention. The combination of booty bass electronica and something that sounds like romanian synth-folk-disco from the 80’s is amazing.

Don’t forget to check out also other of b0g’s stuff. His mashups and remixes always touch some local Romanian topics. In the track Tineretze Legionara b0g mashups the sound from a video recording of orthodox nuns singing the hymn of the infamous far-right pre-WWII Iron Guards with hard techno. In this sense his music could be compared to the sound of artists like the slovak Batcha de Mental, whose mashups of early 90’s Slovak pop with killer bass/electro are also a way of coming to terms with the past and tackling the subject of identity/authenticity.

His hypnotic audio journey leads us through the offbeat paths of Romanian experimental music scene composed of samples of legends like Iancu Dumitrescu and his wife Ana-Maria Avram or Mastino Surfers (kindly attributed from our compilation:) or the sixties Romanian rock band Phoenix. Also includes field recordings - crickets and horses, traditional intruments and other sonic ephemera.
